Being LG‘s flagship of the 2012 TV range, the LM960V (or LM9600 in the US) promises high-end technology, appealing design, an innovative remote controller and all the latest Smart TV features. In this review we want to find out if it can keep that promise and live up to the high expectations.
The celebrity porn LM960V is a beauty, its bezel barely visible.
The LM960V has a minimalistic design, almost no bezels and is really thin. This creates a cool yet sophisticated look which can add to the modern look of any stylish living room. It is a real eye-catcher. The screen covers almost the whole surface of the TV, minimising the bezels to a thin silver line. At the bottom there is a thicker black panel, hosting the company’s logo and the receiver for the remote. The silver bipod stand looks elegant without trying to be too fancy. Of course it is also possible to mount the TV on the wall without stand. As with other models, LG achieves a high design standard, giving its TV a futuristic yet lean look. As for the remote control, LG has come up with an innovative solution, the “magic remote”. This is a black device which works pretty much like a Wii-controller. By moving the remote, you can move the little arrow on the screen. LG managed to really make this experience worthwhile and smooth. It is probably the best attempt so far in creating an intuitive controller for a TV. Additionally, there is a voice control feature and the ergonomic design makes it fit comfortably into your hand.
Two screen sizes are available, 47” and 55”. Although it would have been nice to have more alternatives, those two common sizes should be enough for the normal user. Naturally, it comes with a 1920 x 1080p HD resolution. Picture refresh rate, dynamic contrast ratio and viewing angle all meet or even exceed the industry’s highest standards which lets you experience a smooth cinematic adventure. As for colours, the LM960V’s default calibration is not satisfying. Bright colours are too bright, and dark ones too dark. However, if you switch to cinema profile you get far better results and the picture is more pleasant to look at. To achieve an even better balance we advise you to manually adjust the calibration. After that, the picture is almost perfect. It has a very decent colour reproduction, even with dark colours and can therefore be considered one of the best on the market. LG uses backlit Nano LED technology which allows for a blur-free and well-balanced picture. Furthermore, the TV features passive 3D which looks not bad, but cannot be compared to the much better active 3D of plasma TVs. Although there is a lack of detail, it still is the best solution for LCD/LED models. You just need to put on the 3D-glasses (anyone will work), sit a bit further away from the screen and you should not encounter any major problems. All in all, visual quality is solid, but not yet quite what we should expect from a high-end Smart TV.
The LM960V has all the features a Smart TV should have: apps, a place to buy them, a web browser, a multitude of ports for HDMI and USB, WiFi and a smart control system. However, not all of the functions work as we would like them to. There is a very limited amount of apps available at the moment, although there is a promise to change that. Furthermore, the apps available are of such bad quality it is not even worth to try them out. A good point is how the web browser can be controlled via the magic remote. Not only does it work, it is also really comfortable and pleasant, a fact which makes it stand out from other Smart TVs. Another thing worth mentioning is the dual-core processor which makes the LM960V really fast and powerful.
Here we encounter a problem many Smart TV manufacturers face at the moment: The technology is still in its infancy. Although, the remote control works fine, not everything runs that smoothly. Nevertheless, it is one of the most user-friendly Smart TVs on the market at the moment.
The LM960V is definitely an eye-catcher. Once adjusted, visual quality is really good and 3D works out fine as well. What makes it stand out against other models is its usability which is already at a good level. Nevertheless, time will see improvements even here. Older LG models, such as the LM7600, are almost equivalent to the LM960V which does not quite justify the high price for the latter. However, it is a beautiful, powerful and user-friendly Smart TV which can definitely compete with other high-end models.
